Adorable Shiba Inu Dog Rocks Baby in Car Seat

Look, this isn’t going to be a rant about how humans with all their almighty knowledge and power are infallible (and feel free to be heavy with the sarcasm in your human interpretation), but sometimes I have to wonder. For starters, let us examine the situation that I find myself in now, baby included.

What really makes this situation insulting too, is that nobody asked me. Nope, they all just left the room, maybe the house or the country for all I know. The only thing that is clear right now, is that I am the baby – dogsitter.

Sure, that isn’t a big deal for humans, but then again it isn’t as if humans are as instinctive or as nurturing as we are. So, while this may not be a big deal for them, it is everything to us, to me! I mean, first of all, I have to make sure the baby is comfortable, that is important to get quality sleep.

No, human babies don’t grow quite like our babies, but they still grow fast and that is hard on their young bodies, and requires lots of seeping and rest, when they aren’t growing, nibbling, chewing, playing, or just being pupp – I mean babies.

Then there is the safety and welfare concerns to worry about. Yes, humans just put their babies to sleep and forget about them until they hear them crying when they wake up. For us, well our babes get our undivided attention.

Yes, I know, humans have jobs, responsibilities, other people, and relationships to care for, and blah, blah, blah. And what, dogs don’t have responsibilities? Homes to protect, cats to guard against, bones to bury – sorry, I’m ranting, aren’t I?

The point is that there is a lot to do when it comes to puppy, or uhm, babysitting. While they sleep, I always like to check their pulse, sometimes I might check their breathing too. And then, if they have a blankey, it is important to make sure that it keeps them covered.

As you can see, there is a lot to babysitting, and this is only a small example of the many things puppy – er, uhm, I mean that babysitting requires. And remember, nobody asked me anything, and I can’t even leave to see where they went – why? Because I have a baby to watch!

Look, I love puppies, babies, and all kinds of cute and furry non-cat-like creatures. And I’m a dog, I’m made to help, to love, and to protect. All I’m saying is, this is exhausting, and I could use a little break. It isn’t like a laid around all day, sniffing things, eating and drinking, and being lazy.

Wait – it is like that. Okay, well, that isn’t the point, but hopefully, you understand what I’m saying. What if I had been on a cat chase today, or if I had to protect the house from those strange bag-carrying men in blue?

Exactly! It’s okay, humans, a dog is on the job. Maybe just a please and thank you next time, that’s all I’m really barking about.
